New Year New Start

I will start this blog by introducing myself. My name is Lily Grijalva and I have been teaching for 6 years now. These last couple of years have been filled with a lot of change. Being a person who hates change, it has been very difficult. First the district changed our school's wonderful principal, who had been at the school since it opened. The following year with a new principal we got the news that our school would be closing, and that year was our last. : (. We were upset since it was a great school for teachers, students, and the community. After our school closed we were moved to a school that was a middle school, now turned into a K-8 school.

But change is good right?? With the new school came a new coworkers, new rules, and new opportunities. It has been a different type of school year, and we realized that we were extremely lucky and spolied as many may say in our previous school. Now we realize that what we thought that was the norm was not. It was just something that was done for us at our school.

I would have never thought that I would teach anything other than 3rd grade. I taught 3rd grade for 5 years and half of this first quarter.

This school year with all other changes, I opted to move to 2nd grade since one of the third grade teachers had to be moved anyways. It has been a great move! I had a difficult start as the students had learned different habits and routines that I was not accustomed to and not the way I ran my classroom. After a quarter and a half, my second graders are almost at the point where I want them to be, and we will have a great SMARTIE year.
